Hamster Kombat has taken the reins from Notcoin, spearheading the next wave of Telegram crypto games and seemingly drawing in massive crowds—over 300 million players, as reported by the developers in late July. This surge comes shortly after Telegram’s founder and CEO, Pavel Durov, mentioned that the game had already surpassed 239 million players earlier in the month. And now, all this crowd is waiting for the Hamster Kombat airdrop.
What’s fueling the popularity of this game, which combines simple tapping gameplay with strategic elements as you become a hamster CEO of a crypto exchange? The answer lies in an upcoming token airdrop, enticing players to keep tapping and strategizing.
We’ve been following the buzz around Hamster Kombat over the past few months. We’ve gathered solid information and hints about what to expect from the launch—details on when, where, and how to maximize your potential token haul.
Here’s what we know so far. Stay tuned, as we’ll update this story with more details as they become available.
What is the Hamster Kombat token?
In late May, Hamster Kombat announced its plans to launch a token on The Open Network (TON), a layer-1 blockchain originally created by Telegram and now maintained by the community.
This is the same blockchain that saw the launch of Notcoin’s NOT token, which became the biggest gaming token launch of the year with a peak market cap nearing $3 billion. Amidst the excitement for Notcoin and growing anticipation for Hamster Kombat and other Telegram games, Toncoin (TON) has climbed into the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap.
When is Hamster Kombat airdrop coming?
The Hamster Kombat website initially projected a July date for the token generation event (TGE), which typically marks the opening of a token airdrop for eligible players. During a Twitter Spaces in early June, the team reiterated their July target, which was later confirmed via a TON representative.
However, July passed without an airdrop. Near the end of the month, the team cited ongoing technical preparations due to the large player base. The TGE and airdrop are now listed as “upcoming” events on the official website.
Meanwhile, crypto exchanges such as ByBit have started pre-market trading for the Hamster Kombat token, labeled HMSTR. OKX is the latest to offer this feature as of August 1.
Despite the delay, the team has confirmed that additional crypto rewards will follow the token launch. The game will continue to evolve with a second in-game season of rewards, ensuring ongoing engagement beyond the initial airdrop.
How many tokens will players get?
The exact number of tokens players will receive remains unknown. Notcoin’s airdrop, which serves as a benchmark, awarded one on-chain NOT token for every 1,000 in-game coins collected.
However, Hamster Kombat seems to be taking a different route. In early June, the team tweeted that airdrop allocations wouldn’t solely depend on the number of coins accumulated in-game before a set deadline.
“Airdrop will depend on the profit per hour and other activity parameters that we will reveal later, NOT the coin balance,” the official game account tweeted on June 6, urging players to “play wisely.” On June 18, they reiterated this, emphasizing “profit per hour over coin balance.”
What does this mean? While it’s tempting to build a massive coin pile from this Hamster Kombat airdrop, it’s more beneficial to reinvest those coins into upgrades to boost your profit-per-hour rate, which influences your passive earnings.
In late July, the team further clarified: “Participation in various activities will impact the amount of tokens received in the upcoming airdrop, not the distribution itself—all players (excluding bots) will receive tokens.” They added, “No section of the game is mandatory to play.”
This explanation followed the introduction of new features, which some players feared would be necessary to earn their token share.
“The game’s philosophy does not enforce participation in any activity,” the team stated. “New features like the Playground are designed to level the playing field for real players, new players, and players with different gaming styles. The only requirement to receive your tokens is to connect your TON wallet to your profile.”
